2002 Shootout Teams Announced

High School Hoops Showdown

    The Integrity Group has released the official pairings for it's 5th Annual "High School Hoops Showdown" which will once again be held at the Rockford MetroCentre, Rockford, IL. Next year's Boys Basketball doubleheader event is scheduled for Saturday, January 19, 2002.

    In Game 1 (6:15 tip-off) it's Rochelle Township taking on Milwaukee-Vincent, the back-to-back defending Wisconsin state champs. The "Hubs" (25-4), led by Soph. F Ben Rand (6'5", 180 lb., 25.1 ppg.), return four starters from a second consecutive Regional Championship team. The "Vikings" (25-2), state champions five of the last six years, return three starters for a team that could be nationally ranked. They are led by SG Greg Brown (6'1", 170 lbs.), one of the Top-25 rated Juniors (at his position) in the country.

    Game 2 (8:00 tip-off) features two teams, Chicago-Farragut and Rockford-Boylan, that figure to be in everyone's Pre-Season Top-10 in Illinois. The "Admirals", led by F/C Elliott Poole (6'7, 215 lbs), return four starters from a team that finished 19-8 and was ranked #12 in the AP's final regular season poll. The "Titans" (24-5), who recaptured the NIC-9 championship (they've won 10 of the last 11) and made it to their eight straight sectional final, also return four starters. They are led by PG Steve Harris (5'11, 178 lbs.).

 

City-Suburban Showdown

    The Integrity Group has announced the official pairings for next year's doubleheader "showdown" which has now become one of the most highly anticipated events of the Boys' High School Basketball season. The date is set for Saturday, February 16, 2002, and will once again be held at Northwestern's Welsh-Ryan Arena, in Evanston, IL.

    In Game 1 (6:15 tip-off), it's Chicago-Brother Rice (24-6) vs. Schaumburg (29-3), the defending state champions. They've never met in a sanctioned game. The "Crusaders" return two starters and will be led by 6'5" F Marty Masterson, an all-Catholic League performer. The "Saxons", who ended their season riding a 21 game winning streak, will feature SG Tony Young (6'0", 175) and a host of returning teammates who played significant minutes throughout the state tournament and title game.

    Game 2 (8:00) also features two teams, Maywood-Proviso East (25-4) and Chicago-Julian (21-10), who have never met in sanctioned play. The "Pirates" return four starters and are led by 5'11", 150 lb. PG Daniel "Dee" Brown who made the AP's All-State Class AA third team. The "Jaguars" feature 6' 3", 180 lb. PG Sean Dockery who made the AP's second team and is regarded by many as one of the Top-5 Junior's in the country. In his last game this season, a triple overtime Public League quarterfinal against Crane, Dockery had 53 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists, and 8 steals.
