Frank's notes:
Shaun Pruitt helped lead West Aurora to a third-place finish at
the Class AA finals on March 19 to 20. He averaged 16.6 points and 7.6 rebounds
per game, good for third and tied for first respectively in the Elite Eight
field. After a win over Hoffman-Estates on March 19, West Aurora fell 58-46 the
following day to Homewood-Flossmoor. West Aurora finished the season with a 32-2
record after topping Carbondale, 68-50 in the third-place game.
What’s up everyone?
My high school basketball career has ended, but it was a great year for my team and me. I really wanted us to be state champs, but unfortunately we lost in the semifinals to Homewood-Flossmoor. H-F is a really good team; we had problems getting the ball up the court against their press, that’s what killed us. It was great just getting the chance to be Downstate though.
It took me a while to get over the loss. I really had a tough time coming out to play in the third place game. I wanted to win the whole thing, so once we lost (in the semifinals) I was unmotivated, but I fed off the rest of the guys and hooped anyway. We ended up winning and got third place in the state; not what I wanted but nevertheless pretty good.
Now that the season is over I plan on getting back in the weight room. I still need to add some strength before I head to Champaign. I plan to jump rope a lot too; Coach (Gordie) Kerkman talked to me about jumping rope when I turned in my stuff. A lot of people have been telling me to jump rope over the years, and I could definitely use more speed and agility playing in the Big Ten.
Right now I am on Spring Break, so I will get a lot of rest. I haven’t been doing that much besides watching the NCAA tournament. I watched Illinois go out to Duke, but that’s all right, everyone returns next year so our team should be really good.
I am bored, there’s not really a lot going on in Aurora. I have just been hanging out with my brother and my guy Trent. Everything in school is going well for me and the rest of the guys. I hope that my guy Jaeh (Thomas) will end up signing a letter of intent to play Division I ball. I know there are some Division I schools that like him, so I just wish him the best.
There’s nothing else, I’m just looking forward to next year.
I’m out
